Exactly a year after the tragic Kamala Mills fire in Mumbai, residents and office-goers in Lower Parel were in for another scare as a fire broke out in an under-construction highrise near the same compound, Fortunately, the fire was quickly doused by the fire brigade which dispatched 4 fire engines to the spot.

Local residents contacted fire brigade around 6:45 am on Saturday. Four fire engines were dispatched and the fire was quickly brought under control. There are no reports of casualties or injuries.

The highrise was under construction and a few workers were reportedly present inside at the time of the incident.

The cause of the fire is yet unknown.

Lower Parel is an important commercial and residential district in Mumbai. Headquarters and divisional offices of many corporate and media companies are located in Kamala Mill compounds. Many upscale eateries and pubs are there in the compound.

Last year, a massive fire swept through two roof-top pubs- Mojo's Bistro and 1 Above-- located in Kamala Mills Compound in central Mumbai, on December 29, resulting in the death of 14 people. Gross negligence and illegal construction by the owners of the eateries was found to be the reason behind the tragedy.
