Occupational injuries and diseases take a huge toll on industry, individual 7 his family and also society at large. It is estimated that 4% of the world`s GDP is lost due to such preventable occupational hazards. In India though over the years we have been able to arrest the increase in such cases there is lot to be done in different sectors of our economy. In addition to adoption and implementation of safety management systems at workplace, we need to cultivate the culture of prevention in our country. Sharing of information & experiences, providing platforms for expressing concerns and finding possible solutions, exploring and giving opportunities for learning are some of the ways and means of promoting safety culture and strengthening the national movement.
